Brigance Brigade Foundation Invites You to #RaceforALS at 5th Annual 5.7K Championship Race & 1.57 Mile Family Run/Walk

April 29th Event to Kick-Off ALS Awareness Month & Celebrate Champions Battling ALS

Baltimore, Md. – The Brigance Brigade Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that supports people battling ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and their families, created by former NFL player O.J. Brigance and his wife Chanda, today announced that registration is now open for the 5th annual 5.7K Championship Race & 1.57 Mile Family Run/Walk. The April 29th event will kick-off ALS Awareness Month (May) and proceeds will further the Foundation’s mission to equip, encourage and empower people living with ALS by providing access to needed equipment, resource guidance and additional support services.

The 2018 event, to be held at Canton Waterfront Park in Baltimore, MD, will feature 3 running events in honor of former Baltimore Ravens player O.J. Brigance’s jersey number (#57) – a timed 5.7K run, 1.57 mile family run/walk, and a Kids’ Fun Run. After the races, participants are encouraged to spend the morning in the event’s Celebration Village where they can enjoy a new Beer Garden, music, food, harbor views, games and more!

“The Brigance Brigade Foundation 5.7K Championship Event offers participants unique distance options, a great post-race Celebration Village, and most importantly, the opportunity to make an immediate difference in the lives of people battling ALS,” said Chanda Brigance, Co-Founder of the Brigance Brigade Foundation. “Our Foundation is focused on helping people who are battling the disease right now, which is especially important when other organizations have recently stopped funding things like respite care and equipment. It is vital, now more than ever, that we support our neighbors in need and help them reclaim their independence and quality of life.”

Both teams and individuals are encouraged to sign up for, and fundraise in support of, the Championship Race. Over the past four years, the 5.7K Championship Event has rallied well over 1,000 participants per year. The goal for the 2018 event is to raise $170,000 in support of PALS (People battling ALS).

The Foundation also encourages those who would like to participate without traveling to Baltimore to register as a Virtual Racer. Virtual participants can sign up, build teams, fundraise and race in their own 5.7K or 1.57 mile race wherever they live, whenever they can. Virtual participants will receive race swag packages by mail and can connect with the organization via social media by using the hashtag, #RaceforALS.

Early bird registration fees are currently in effect for the 5.7K run ($35) and the 1.57 mile run/walk ($30); prices will rise on March 30, 2018.
